More progress! [Foote Fam]

So I'm working in another copy of this portrait. Like the last trio project I did, I'm trying to make them as close as possible. I know there's the whole artist's interpretation thing and no two pieces are the same - but I'm a perfectionist dammit!

I'm trying to get all the faces done so I don't get bored (not that this is boring, but it's good to break up the monotony). In fact, after I'm done with the face on the right, I may start on the third copy. Then again, the person who commissioned me may soon get tired of waiting, so I may try and get a few done and delivered. Her code is: "where's my two dollars!" Those of you who grew up in the 80's will appreciate that movie reference. Right now I've amassed only about $0.90 of what I owe.

So, back to drawing. More updates later.

Latest progress on the [Foote Fam] project

Working on one of the set of three portraits. I'm having to use 4 different pictures. Why? Well, you know how it is when you can't get everyone to sit and take the perfect picture. It was definitely a Microsoft "to the cloud!" moment. Only, there wasn't any "cloud" to get the perfect photo.

New Projects Coming! [2011 is a busy year]

I have a lot going on this year.  I have some great projects lined up:

  • New pencil portrait commission [another 3 copy job].  This one's up first.  Also included will be a caricature.
  • New airbrush project on canvas.  This will be a tutorial I'm following out of a book called "Airbrushing Techniques - Step by Step" by Roland Kuck.  This book is a great buy on Amazon.com and it has some really detailed tutorials.  The one I'm doing first will be a tree frog.  The book even comes with a DVD!
  • New automotive airbrushing project.  Soon I'll have the pieces of my 1993 GXSR 750 completed and ready for me to paint.  I have a cool image in my head of a Japanese themed dragon made of fire.
  • Android App development.  Part of my 'jack of all trades' artistic mentality also includes my interest in programming.  If you don't think this is an art form, think again the next time you play that awesome Wii or XBox game.  The amount of creativity needed to produce something like HALO or Mario Kart is truly an art of its own.  I have an idea for an app that I believe is going to be HUGE!  So I've decided to delve into Android development.  I've bought a few books and I'll be blogging about my adventure there.
  • Movie Script.  I also love to write.  I was pretty bored with the standard best seller book because it seemed forever to read the darn thing [maybe I'm just a slow reader].  But I started reading movie scripts several years ago and I developed a passion for wanting to write a movie script.  I have a screenplay I've been working on for quite some time and I've decided it's time to finish it and submit it to a contest.  I'm shooting for either the Amazon Studios contest on January 31, or [more realistically] the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards on April 1.
I'm sure my curiosities will allure me to something else between then as well.  Stay tuned as I try and keep track of everything I'm doing and report back to you!

Have a great 2011!!

Earnhardt_project update! [Moving right along...]

I got up early (9:30AM) this morning to start working on this portrait.  I mailed of the MMM_project and got back to work on this one.

I'm really liking the Canson Bristol paper as it is giving me some very nice shading.  I'm confident I can have this one done by Sunday evening.

My progress so far:

Check out tomorrow's post where I'll hopefully be showing off the finished product!

New Commission! [Earnhardt_project]

Don't be confused by the title - Dale Earnhardt Jr. did not commission me for a portrait.  Although, if anyone knows Dale Jr. personally, I'd be more than happy to have him commission me...perhaps for some race tickets or something?

My good friend Jennifer asked me to do a portrait of her girls.  Here's the original I'll be working with.

My standard tools list:

  • Canson 11x14 smooth Bristol paper
  • 2H, B, 2B, 4B, 6B, and 8B graphite pencils
  • Chamois cloth, Q-tips, paper stumps, and various erasers
  • My mad drawing skills!
My progress as of late tonight.

Keep an eye on the Picasa Web Album for updates!  My goal is to knock this one out in only a few days so I can mail it by Monday, December 20, 2010!

MMM_project update! [DONE!]

And that's that!

Side by side are all three copies.  Any weirdness in the picture is from the panorama function of my Samsung Vibrant.

I'll let this sit tonight and come back to it in the morning to clean things up, make last minute adjustments, and make sure things are to my liking.

I've actually done 4 total copies, but the first one had a snafu.  I'm proud of them.  Even though they are not exact copies of each other, I'd say they are pretty close.  The important thing is that they have the same composition, proportions, and likenesses.

I'll be mailing these off in the morning and starting on the next commission.

Check the Picasa Web Album for the complete gallery of all copies from start to finish.

Also, check back regularly for the new commission and...*drumroll*...a time lapse video of one of these copies!!  That's right.  While working on one of the copies, I used my webcam to record my drawing session.  I'm looking forward to getting it processed and formatted for your viewing pleasure.  I'll be posting that as soon as I'm done with the other commission - so stay tuned!
