I present to you: The Boxer Love Mug
This past Saturday night was a date night with some friends. We had been wanting to check out this really neat place called Art Smart Academy. If you've never heard of them, Art Smart Academy is a great little place that teaches fine art and pottery. You can go in, pick out a pottery piece, and have a great time painting it. All fees are included in the price of the piece you pick out. The large mug I picked out was only $19! Makes for a great time. You can also like them on their Facebook page.
So I was looking around for something that would inspire me. Someone had painted a nice little Boston Terrier on a plate. Then we saw this nice little vase that has some pencil sketched flowers on it. My immediate thought was to do a mug for Erin with her boxer, Tucker, who recently passed away.
I used a reference photo, a medium mug, and a black, brown, yellow, and pink pottery underglaze pencils.
I put Tucker's mug on the front of the mug (see what I did there?). I sketched "Boxer Love" on the other side of the mug. I wanted to do something on the inside, so I put a paw print in the bottom. I wanted it to be unique, so I left a silhouette of a boxer on the inside of the paw print. Then on the inside lip, I did dog bones. What dog doesn't like dog bones?
